Epikentro Theatre
First performance: Friday, December 8, 2000
Presented at Poreia Theatre, Athens, from February 2 to 11, 2001.
…A wall, a boy, a girl, two elderly parents, and a mysterious man. The two young protagonists discover love through a utopia orchestrated by their parents with the help of a master of romanticism. The story of Romeo and Juliet comes alive once more to ultimately initiate the young couple into the poetry of reality…
This is the first performance of The Romancers in Greece. The play was written in 1894 by Edmond Rostand, author of Cyrano de Bergerac. It is an exquisite example of neoromanticism in verse, characterised by its poetry, musicality, melancholy, and sharp sense of humour — a poem that explores the clash of romantic impulses in youth with the harsh world of adults.
