Kykladon Street Theatre — Lefteris Vogiatzes
First performance: November 24, 2022
“Lykofos” Cultural Organisation by George Lykiardopoulos & POLYPLANITY Productions
Following their remarkably fruitful collaboration on Alexander Griboyedov’s Woe from Wit, a performance of exceptional beauty distinguished as one of the season’s finest, the Kykladon Street Theatre and Stathis Livathinos are joining forces again to present Berlin Alexanderplatz.
The play is based on the highly influential eponymous novel by Alfred Döblin, one of the most important German writers of the twentieth century, whose adaptation into a miniseries by Fassbinder in the 1980s remains a major point of reference.
It explores successive cycles in the life of recently released prisoner Franz— the cycle of love, the cycle of integrity, the cycle of survival, the cycle of death—through a chain of captivating events that compose his tragic life.
Stathis Livathinos’s production highlights the epic tale of an ordinary man living in Berlin between the two world wars.
Berlin Alexanderplatz is the culmination of the historic journey traced for over 20 years in Greek theatre by Stathis Livathinos and the steadfast ensemble of actors and creative collaborators which he has been leading since 2001.
